A year ago, I reluctantly purchased a domain, picked up my camera and started blogging. I’m off by a couple of days, but my blog is finally one! At the time, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I must’ve googled “things to do before launching a blog” a million times!
This past year has been full of lessons and I’ve changed quite a lot internally. This space has played a role in that change. Something that started as a little hobby because I wanted to share some bits of my life, has actually become something very important to me. In fact, I feel that my blog has helped me shape my personality or rather I have been given a space to express myself.
Today I’m proud to say this little space of mine has visitors from six countries. This month alone I’ve had over 1,000 page views! With that being said, I still have mixed feelings about the effort I put into my blog. I love having a space that is mine to freely express myself, but its not always easy. Sometimes while brain storming content I think,
“What if *-insert person here-* sees this post?”
“How vulnerable is too vulnerable?”
“How open is too open?”
For those reasons, I haven’t always been the most consistent with blogging. So I’m thankful for all of you who stayed around for the ride.
As a thank you, I’d like to give away Avie’s Dreams to one special reader. I started following Makeda Lewis on twitter about five years ago. Here’s the thing with following internet friends for so long; you get to watch them bloom. When I saw that she released a coloring book, I immediately supported.
Titled Avies Dreams, the book’s description reads, “The images in this book are illustrations of dreams had by a girl named Avie after she saw the world for what it was and was subsequently institutionalized due to her lack of motivation for living conventionally. These pages explore themes including feminism, afrocentricity, death and rebirth, gender identity and power dynamics.”
The images* she created are unlike any that I’ve seen in a coloring book. Makeda ditched the monotonous and sometimes overtly intricate coloring book theme to present images that tell a story.
(*This coloring book does contain nudity and abstract art. If you’re not into that, you may not want to enter)
Now for the fun part!
You can use the form below to enter the giveaway. One winner will be selected randomly after contest closing on February 27th. The winner will be announced and notified on Tuesday February 28th 2017.
